Open Question: 1/2 Bath - Laundry or Basement?

I commend anyone who takes the time to read this! I am having a hard time determining which way to go. The Projects: 1) Add a 1/2 bath to my existing 1st floor laundry room 2) Complete a basement remodel The house stats: 3 bedroom, 2 bath Master bed on 1st floor 2nd and 3rd bed on 2nd floor Master bath is dual entry so it serves the first floor as well 2nd bath is on 2nd floor so it serves bed 2 and 3 Project 1 Details: I can stack the dryer on the washer and make room for a toilet and pedestal sink. Cost about $5,000 The Bad: - Laundry shares space with bath. - Dryer stacked on washer - Tight space, need to turn sideways to get by the washer/dryer to get to the sink. Toilet has enough room The Good: - 1st floor now has a 1/2 bath for guests (or kids) - Master bath can be walled off so its a true master bath vs. dual entry - Now have the room to add a 2nd vanity in the master bath. There is current only room for 1 sink Project 2 Details: Basement remodel. Will add 1/2 bath, will have flooring, drywall and ceiling. One area will act as a media room/play area/office area. The other room with be a work out space. Cost is $10,000. The Bad: - High cost, no funds to do project 1 - Only useful if you have 2 or more kids - Is a usable space now, but still looks like a basement The good: - More space to spread out for larger family So the question...if you can only choose one, what would yield the best ROI? What makes more sense?

Open Question: DIY & electrics: help?

Hi. I'm asking very random questions today. I think my mind's stuck in a void. Anyway. I was meandering round the internet and it struck me: how great would it look to paint your name (or something like that) in large serif font letters diagonally across a wall, making it fit from near the ceiling right to the floor? AND! How about instead of just leaving it painted, give it a bright outline and fill it with lights like Lichtenstein ( http://www6.plala.or.jp/yusen/home/mac-i/Lichtenstein.jpg )? If I were to do that, I would need to drill holes in the wall, big enough to fit a very small bulb into. Huh. ... So, hypothetically speaking, how would one go about doing this? Thanks in advance x

Open Question: Ways of moving house any more ideas?

Hi, I'm desperate to move house as the house im in is too large for me, my partner and baby. I live in a housing association property. I don't have the money to buy, and I don't want to move into private renting. My local council don't have a mutual exchange list or a waiting list. I'm on my housing associations transfer list and i'm registered on homswapper.co.uk. I was just wondering if anyone had anymore ideas. Thank you. UK only. Serious answers only please.

Open Question: Need ideas to brighten up my bedroom?

I decided a little while ago to paint my room all white so that I could have whatever colour accessories I wanted without being tied to a particular colour scheme. Also my room is quite long and thin so it needs a light colour to stop it looking too shadowy. I have used bright coloured accessories like pink blue and green vases with pink yellow and orange artificial flowers. I have a big canvas with smarties all over it, and I have a selection of duvet covers which are all white with different colour designs. However the end of my room where the bed is, is under a sloping roof so I cant do an awful lot with the wall space there, but it looks quite bare apart from the bed itself. What could I do to brighten up that area, baring in mind I dont have alot of wall space and no spare floor space?
