Open Question: Curtain Color Suggestions: We are painting our living room with Sherwin Williams color Kismet (6830)?

You can look it up on their website - it is a bright purple. What curtain colors can you guys suggest? If you can give me ideas, RGB values or even Sherwin Williams paint numbers, it would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!

Open Question: Construction Help- Flooring!?

My cousins and I are building a "tree house" or more of a small house. We don't know where to find cheap carpet or a rug to put in the place. We want the small house to be about 13 ft by 9 ft. Where can we find the carpet/rug cheap? Should we put wood flooring in? Flooring at all or just keep the wood floors? HELP! When I say keep the wood floors i mean the wood bottoms we are going to build the floor with.

Open Question: Can a basement kitchen move upstairs?

Hi, I live in Essex County, where you need 2-3 incomes to even rent an apartment. There's a small house built 130 years ago I may be able to get. No one wants it because of its age, and likely because the kitchen & the bath are both in the basement. The upstairs is just 3 small rooms & a pantry, and an attic with the smallest staircase ever, that must clear 4 feet high. If I got an FHA rehab loan, is it feasible to move the kitchen upstairs & update the house for under $35,000? It's 2BR/1BA, very small. Thanks! And please, I would love to leave town, but my fiance has a residency requirement for his job.

Open Question: How to decorate this bedroom?

Here is a picture of the bedspread in my bed room. You can see just a touch of the curtains in the corner as well. Can any body help with ideas on what to do for it? I am also in an apartment so no painting allowed. Thank you http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a191/rubyrose0912/l_25ac64bddffc4048a5ef96f69e836301.jpg

Open Question: Want new kitchen, cut concrete floor or build subfloor?

Hi- I have a big family room that will become my new kitchen. It currently has a concrete floor while the rest of the house is raised foundation. The family room has vaulted ceilings so I have plenty of space if I want to raise the floor. The concrete foundation is about 6 inches lower than the floor of the raised part of the house (so you have one step down to get from one room to the other). The main part of the house has the water and sewer running underneath, but I need to figure out how to get the requisite services across the room to where I want my sink, etc. So my question is what to do with the floor and how to run the pipes? Option A: Cut through the concrete and run the water and waste under the concrete foundation. Fill the concrete back in and tile over it. Option B: Build a raised floor on top of the concrete and run the waste and water lines through the subfloor. Do these both make sense and do either of them make your eyes water with the though of the complexity (or stupidity) of the work involved. I have options C which means leaving the sink/water lines right against the house where they already are, but it limits me to putting my sink in a place that isn't very handy. Good opinions so far. One follow up question. I'm thinking the subfloor will be 2x4s. Doesn't leave me a ton of room with 6 inches elevation change to run pipes under the 2x4 beams. Whats the best way to run the pipes under the new floor? I'm not an experienced builder but I am trying to educate myself =)

Open Question: Help with designing bedroom?

My friend recently moved into an old house and her bedroom needs some major help. The walls are wood paneling, but we are not allowed to paint it. On one side of the room there are wood shelves going across the entire length of the wall. My Idea was to maybe paint them white? Her favorite color is seafoam green but she also likes white and black. The room is so dark though that black would probably not be a good choice to go with. All the furniture in her room was what they had found left over in the house when they moved in, so we were thinking of painting her two dressers and the iron bed. Any suggestions for how to design her room?

Open Question: What is the difference in all the embroidery/sewing machines?

I am just kinda snooping around & looking for an embroidery/sewing machine. I want to be able to embroider some outfits & things & I am really wanting to make some appliques with this as well. I do not want to spend $1000 to $4000 on one. What is the difference between say a Brother 350, or 6770, or 700 other than the price? I don't want a big commercial machine. Just one that I can make some appliques & embroider some dresses & things for my kids & friends. Thank you!

Open Question: Is caulk "with" silicone OK for windows in California?

The guy who replaced my windows used caulk "with" silicone to seal the new windows. I have always heard to use pure silicone for windows. Is this going to be a problem? Thanks

Open Question: Bathroom remodeling questions-?

I have a couple questions. First, I am trying to find pictures online of remodeled bathrooms and all I seem to find are large, expensive high end renovations. I am on a budget and have a small bathroom to work with. Its extremely outdated and needs a full renovation, not just replacing a counter top or painting. Does anyone know of any websites that have before/after pictures of regular bathrooms that are new? That dont involve a spacious room with a jetted tub and separate shower etc. Also for people who have renovated recently, could you tell me what you paid? Thank you!
