The main issue I'm having is that my traditional Asian parents like to sleep on a hard surface. I was thinking of getting a futon (frame and mattress) as well as tatami mats. When my parents visit, I'd pull off the mattress and put the tatami mats on the frame. Then for any other guests, we can use the mattress. Putting the tatami mats on the frame also prevents my elderly parents from having to get up and down from the floor. I'm just worried about whether it would be stable or if there is something about tatami mats that you shouldn't put it on a futon frame.
