Open Question: How can I insulate my concrete floor?

I am planning to put real hardwood floors in my home. However, the floor under the carpet is concrete. It is always very cold in the downstairs of the house and I would like to be able to insulate the floor before having the floors installed. Is there anyway to do that?

Open Question: Can you create a pattern using wood stain?

I have a chest of drawers that i got from a second hand shop for really cheap, but its in desperate need of a makeover. I want to do the top in leopard print, but dont want to use paint as it would be too garish - i want it to be a bit more subtle, so if i do the top in a light wood color, and painted on the pattern using a darker colour stain, would it work.would it make the pattern stay? any tips/advice would be great

Open Question: Should I pay the extra for the retaining wall (I already paid a premium $12,500 for the lot)?

I already post this question before. I have got a very good answer from Rick Z– Thank you, Rick!!! Now I add two additional facts. Yahoo Q/A won't let me add something to my previous question. So, this question actually is the same as the previous one. What I want to add are that, A). we paid premium $12,500 for the lot. We agreed to pay because this lot is large than other lot. We want to get a large yard in order to build a playground for children. It is first time for us to build a new house. We really put our trust on it. B) During the contract process, design selection and pre-start meeting, we were NEVER told anything related to the retaining wall or slope. We didn't realize the side yard and backyard have 3 feet (+) sloped elevation from the wall to the fence. We found this problem as soon as the foundation work started. We also paid the $19,000 cash deposit for the upgrade. We put all of our saving (from our several dozen years' hard work) and future salary money in this house. Now we feel the huge pain. Our builder is a nationwide famous company. Who can be trusted? We really want to find the reasonably way to resolve this problem. The retaining wall is expensive but it is very necessary in order to keep the yard flat (with minimum slope required by the city code). Please advice whether I should pay the extra money for the retaining wall in this specific situation. I believe that this question and answers not only help me but also help many new buyers. Thanks.
