Open Question: Should I paint or stain my desk?I found a desk that I would like to refinish. I've never done any refinishing before, I've only read a lot about it. My original goal was to strip and re-stain. But when I took a closer look at it, it looks like the top, and some of the frame of the desk are solid wood, but the sides and the back are wood veneer over plywood. I've sanded half the desk and the stain comes off super easy on the solid wood, but it's taking forever on the veneer, and I'm afraid of sanding too much on the veneer. Also, I just tested staining a little bit of each and the stain soaks into the solid wood beautifully but not so much with the veneer. It looks completely different. So my question is, should I continue with my original goal, putting more coats on the veneer, and hope that in the end the stain matches the solid wood, or should I just paint the whole thing instead? I can't seem to find any websites that talk about dealing with refinishing furniture that is part solid wood and part veneer. Thanks! Open Question: Help wtih my room makeover? :)?Hi everyone!
