Open Question: I got 4 tons of river rock for Christmas and tried to make a patio!!!!?We spread it out, sprinkled it with sand & cement topping mix, sprayed it down well with a garden hose and it just didn't work at all. We are trying to do that patio that looks like rocks but is held together by concrete. HELP!!!!!!! Thanks Open Question: Please help me find a matching afghan or throw! 10 points best answer?I need to find a matching pink afghan, throw, or other sort of small blanket that would match the pink in this pillow. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa135/dkirilov/December%202009/IMG_7313_c.jpg Thanks for your help! Open Question: Replacing old tiles with new countertops?Hello. Newbie to DIY home improvements, hehe, advise needed. The kitchen is currently all tiled up (the work table, sink area) It is unpleasant to see the stains, dirt, slime building up on the grout, and they can't be removed thoroughly despite tedious cleaning. And the tiles being 6x6 inchers there's a lot of unsightly grout seen. We'd like to replace it with either a laminate counter top or stone (but leaning on laminate to cut on costs) for sanitation & maintenance reasons and for aesthetics . My questions: 1. Is it possible to not remove the tiles when putting in the new counter top? Height-wise, the added inch or so won't be a problem. 2. Stone tops- they say if you get low grade ones, it's prone to staining etc.. well, we want a black counter top so does it even matter? lol am i being to simplistic about this? It is dark black, so staining would be at best unnoticeable? Thanks! Open Question: If you buy a bed or other furniture, will the merchant offer a free delivery service?I just curious to know, if not, how should I move the bed into my home? How much do I need to pay? (Bay Area) If I buy from IKEA (East Palo Alto) Open Question: Feng Shui bedroom cures? My boyfriend and I just got a new apartment. Our bedroom is above the kitchen which is not good feng shui because of the fire element. On top of that we have a slanted ceiling in the bedroom which contributes to the fire element. Also the only way we can place the bed has our heads pointed East which is a bad direction for us because our Kua number is 6. We don't want this to ruin our relationship so any advice, remedies, cures would be greatly appreciated! Open Question: Sewing pattern for a Karlstad sofa bed from Ikea.?My husband and I are looking to purchase the Karlstad sofa bed from Ikea in the near future (the one where the cushions flip out to make the bed). However, we're not particularly fond of the slip cover options and were thinking of making our own. The only problem is that I'm not an experienced enough sewer to craft my own slip cover without first purchasing a slip cover to use as a template, which would be a nice waste of money. I was wondering if anyone knows of where I could find a sewing pattern for the slipcover to this sofa? Or, maybe someone out there has an old slipcover that they no longer want and would be willing to pass along to me. Thanks for your help! Open Question: how to make a large shipping box from smaller ones?I have artwork to ship. Approximate details are 40" x 40" x 6" depth. Big boxes are very costly. Is there a proper way of constructing a large box from a bunch of small ones? If so, how? Open Question: If i am going to install it myself, which is the cheapest type of fence? Picket, Chain link, etc.?About 650 linear feet total, no driveway, just a small walk out gate on each side Open Question: where can i buy real black roses?Open Question: Can i burn paper logs (not wood) in our gas fireplace? Our heater and fireplace is gas - we've reduce our heater last month and just placed a few electric heaters in a couple of rooms and it is worked just fine. Our heating bill was $125 cheaper than last year! With this arctic freeze coming, can we remove the gas logs and burn those "4 hour" paper logs in our fireplace? We won't be burning real logs, thus creating a roaring fire - the flames aren't expected to get bigger than they were when it was the gas. But I want to be sure it is safe. More Recent Articles
