Open Question: Decorating Sense! I'm helping my mother in law redo and redecorate her living room...?It's a decent size living room, about 16 x 18 ft. and has four windows, however. In this space we need to figure out how to situate a large and beautiful cherry entertainment center and a large office desk hutch. Right now the 'office' area and living area clash and look horrible. Her living room is like a box with no architectual detail. Open Question: Can I put a white glaze on my reddish/walnut stained cabinets?I have stained cabinets of a medium tone, and I want to get a whitewashed look without losing the wood tone completely underneath. I have glazed walls before, but never cabinets, and was wondering if I could apply a white glaze on the cabinets to get the effect I was looking for. When I google "glaze cabinets" all of the tutorials involve applying a darker color to white or ivory cabinets. I wondered if there was a reason for this, and if it would be possible to put a lighter color over a darker color, instead. I realize that as an alternative I could pickle, or whitewash the cabinets, but the pictures of that finish seem a little too white for me. My cabinets have a polyurethane coating, and I am assuming that I need to use an oil-based glaze/ paint mixture after lightly sanding the cabinets- any thoughts? More Recent Articles
