Open Question: Painting window-sills and posts of old house - red lead?

Hi, I have a house built in 1927. The window sills and verandah posts plus entry way need repainting. Using a heat gun, I removed most of the surface paint with no problem, but the exposed wood seemed to have a sticky, red brown residue, which I think is red lead primer. I do not have the money to get a professional in to remove it completely, so I don't think I can go back to raw wood. I am not sure whether to use paint stripper, or to just paint over. If I paint over, what sort of paint is needed? Oil base?.Really need some tips on preparation Thanx in advance

Open Question: How much cleaner are wood floors than carpet floors?

I've had carpet flooring in my room for about 10 years already, and I was considering changing it to wood. I heard that no matter how many times you vacuum a carpet floor, it's still dirty. So I was wondering how much cleaner is a wood floor than carpet? Is it really worth changing?

Open Question: Help me find a hardware solution for this chest of drawers.?

I have painted an old lingerie chest and now wanting to use it for our nursery. It looks very similar to this one: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3258/2651594214_54e6de6a31.jpg The hardware holes are 2.5 inches apart. I'm looking for some pink glass or crystal drawer pulls. All the ones I have seen are spaced 3 inches apart or more. I am open to using knobs instead of pulls, but don't want to fill the two holes.

What did you think of them? I have been researching the sealants as well. How well do they work? How often would I have to re-seal them? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Open Question: Best way to rearrange my room(Quite a couple of ?'s)?

Its about a 12 x 13 rectangle room, give or take a few inches. I also REALLY like to sew and do crafts. I would like to move this into my room so the items/supplies won't get peed on(Leaky cat >_<) or get dog hair all over them. My dogs and cats are not allowed in there in the first place. I will need a table(SUGGESTIONS PLEASE) and my bed is a twin sized. I'm going to see if i can't maybe switch it out with the queen one in the guest room. Currently it should be declared a federal disaster! And it is being cleaned up with a LOT of stuff going to the Goodwill. I also have 2 dressers, one about 5 x 4 and one thats a 4 x 5. Now those dressers are my guessing's. they are all Height by Length. I would also like some room organization and keeping it clean tips. I said to my self- new year, NEW ME! I also have lots of trophies and special item that I will have white shelves lining my room (they'll be more towards the ceiling). My room is a real light powdery-ish pink. Kind of Baby Pink.
