Open Question: Putting Carpet over old hardwood floors? and more... Open Question: Putting Carpet over old hardwood floors? In the house I just bought, in the master bedroom there are these square title like hard wood floors. I'm not big on having hard wood floors in the bedroom and these are kind of dated. Should I rip them up or can the carpet padding and carpet go over the top? For me I wonder if thats going to be two high? Open Question: How many coats of primer should be used?OK I'm re-painting a bedroom, going from medium blue to a medium shade of tan (sand). I sanded the walls to take away the shine from satin finish paint. I painted on one coat of primer, but some of the blue shows threw. Looks more like light blue instead of medium blue. Do I need another coat of primer or will it be ok? Open Question: What Factors Should I Consider While Shopping For Replacement Windows? My wife and I have put money aside for a couple of years now and are finally ready to make the big replacement window investment to update our home. This is going to be a considerable expense and we absolutely have to get it right the first time. I'm hoping anyone with personal experience in selecting a window company can answer these questions for us - or provide additional comments and information. 1. In terms of energy efficiency, are there ratings or grades assigned to specific companies or window types that I should be looking for? 2. Can the average replacement window be made to fit any home or should we expect additional costs for some sort of customization? 3. Will the energy bill savings ever really cover the cost of the new windows? How long did it take some of you to recoup the expense? Thanks very much in advance if you choose to help out!
