Open Question: any idea where to get these from?

Im looking for white boxes that i can sit on my bedroom floor and stack on top of each other to store things in. Like those little abc cubes little kids play with but alot bigger and have the middle cut out. kind of like http://freshome.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/white-shelves.jpg but not on walls and more square and with a backing on them. Open Question: is there a need for thinset under 1/2" wonderboard on a solid 3/4" sub floor for ceramic tile?

since the thinset is not used as a bonding agent , and the floor is solid and straight , and each board will have 54 screws holding it down, is it still necessary to use it ?
