Open Question: Do I need to wax over satin paint?

I am painting wainscoting or beadboard paneling with a dark green (think Olive Drab, but its actually called "Pier") in a kitchen. I was wondering, even though I'm using a Satin, if I lightly wax over the wainscoting - would it enhance the "richness" of the color? Any suggestions? I have the right color - I'm just wanting to really make it "rich".

Open Question: What affordable material can I use to make a shelf I've designed measuring roughly L40cm x W12cm x D20cm?

One of the sides of the shelf will be curved. The material needs to be light (it will be wall-mounted), reasonably strong (it will have bathroom toiletries etc sitting on it, and affordable (I will only be having 3 made, for my bathroom)
