Open Question: What Color Goes with Navy Blue?

Im re-painting my room. My comfortor and sheets for my bed are navy blue and so are my chairs, curtians, picture frames, ect. Would a light gray look nice with it? its a bigg-ish bedroom so it wont dark colors wont make it feel small or anything... Its currently a rusty orange (i picked the color when i was 8 :-P ) and since the lightings kinda poor so its too dark at night. 2 windows so theres pretty much natural light. The shelves and all that stuff are brown wood finish... mostly lighter brown. white carpet. So yeah, im thinkin a cheery gray or somehting....is that good? what shud i pick?

Open Question: Approximately how much would it cost to install a door with custom measurements for my room?

So my room doesn't have a door and I'm dying to get one, cause it gets really frustrating when I wanna be alone. Unfortunately, the size is not regular so we couldn't find anything in Home Depot or Lowes. So how much would it cost me approximately to install a custom door?

Open Question: 2x4 Lumber History - Rough Time Line of Size Changes?

I am remodeling an old farmhouse. There is an original section, roughly built in the late 1800's, and then there is an addition which we are not sure when it was added on. Through research, the newer addition is built with old school 2x4's (1 3/4 x 3 3/4), with 16" centers. It uses the old gypsum that was 2' x 8'. My question is, with these size 2x4's and this gypsum, can somebody tell me the earliest this addition may have been built? Most of you old-schoolers know that prior to gypsum, 2x4's were rough cut and were randomly spaced 17-20" apart, so this addition had to build after the standard 16" centers were developed. Can anyone help determine when this may have been built? Also, if you are very knowledgeable, you may tell me when we went to the current 2x4 sizing of 1 1/2 x 3 1/2? Thanks!

Open Question: When did they invent plastic mantel pieces?

I have just moved into a 1890s house and it has an original fire grate. The surround is, I think, a hard plastic, but it looks like it was put in BEFORE the original lime plaster? Did they have plastic fire surrounds in the 1890s? Or maybe it isn't plastic? Or, probably, it is from some other era and they have very carefully set it in, so when it is likely to have been made? The surround is a fairly convincing marble fake, but I'm sure it is plastic of some sort. Help I'm confused! Thanks.
