Good way to get 10 points. Thanks! Open Question: Restore original fireplace - Is it possible?We are looking to buy a house that was built in 1921. It was extensively remodeled in the 1950s, so 1953 is the effective year built...and the house has the fireplace to prove it! The fireplace is a monstrosity that wraps around the corner of a living room wall and takes up waaay too much space. The back of the fireplace even comes out in the master bedroom, on the other side of the living room, where the stonework extends from floor to ceiling. The fireplace and it's gigantic mantel are classic 1950s. This leads me to believe that there was once a nice, sedated, classic 1920s fireplace there. What I am wondering is this: how likely is it that we will be able to restore the room to its original design, with the original type of classic 1920s fireplace? How difficult might this be? How expensive? Any good resources to share on the topic? If it's important, the house is in the pacific northwest. Thanks for taking the time to help a first time homebuyer out!
