Open Question: how to get hair dye off furniture? and more... Open Question: how to get hair dye off furniture?Hi, iv got hair dye on my leather couch and carpet. Stupid i know! Any tips on how to get it off? Thanks :) Open Question: Buying a first leather couch. Help!?I have no idea what I'm doing. I know what I want the couch to look like, sofa, black leather, those soft, pillowy cushions as arm rests, smooth leather but not patent - kind of like an average leather jacket. I want this to last for years, without peeling, splitting, etc. I'll take good care of it & keep it out of sunlight as much as possible. ..so I'm faced with a variety of options. There's a wide variation in price, most from $425 to $1200. The cheapest ones are of questionable quality - Geneva Leather - says it's genuine, but the reviewers all claim that it suddenly starts peeling like fake leather. Then there's reconstituted leather, leather tops & vinyl leather-like sides and backs (which I'm sure wears unevenly over time). If I'm going to pay a lot of $, I want it to last me 10 years minimum. I'll also be moving soon, so I want it to not require super-special attention & professional movers to keep from being damaged in the move - I'm going UHaul and move-it-myself w/ friends/family help. Does anyone own a leather couch that can give me some pointers from experience, or any other advice? I need it. Thanks in advance! Oh, I'd like either a wood frame or a metal one where you can't see the metal portion (no "modern" look with the long exposed metal legs). I want to make sure that the frame won't come apart on me either, though. I also don't want to sacrifice comfort, and I want the cushions to be "cushy" soft, not overstuffed like a cheap polyester pillow. I'd welcome any advice on recommended brands/sofas/vendors/even countries or animals of origin for the furniture, or the leather. I've been told steer clear of Value City. JCPenney looks like it might have some nice ones. Everything Furniture looks good, but I've heard that their customer service sucks, and I have no idea about the quality. Walter E. Smith looks overpriced. This is the look I'm going for http://www.everysofa.com/Coaster-Sao-Paulo-Leather-Sofa-8903.htm I also wouldn't be opposed to hearing recommendations for an alternative to leather if it really was better than leather (less splitting, same soft feel, flexibility, absence of vinyl smell, more durability), and not biased by anti-leather sentiment.
