Open Question: need advice...cigarette burn to microfiber sectional?

on christmas day my hubby's family came down to visit. they brought other guests with them (which we didn't find out about them until they arrived). well anyway, we have a 2 bedroom and did not have enough room for them. so we had to put them on our sectional. i bought my sectional about 9 months ago and it cost me $1600. well the guy fell asleep with a cigarette in his hands and burnt the chaise section. i specifically asked that he did not smoke on my furniture. he didn't even say that he was sorry. needless to say, he's never allowed back in my house. when i bought the furniture, they sold me a 5-yr warranty for any cuts, burns, stains, etc. i called them in december to report it and they just got back with me on march 9. they said that my sectional is discontinued at the furniture store and they offered me $300 to get it fixed or $800 for new furniture. i paid $1600 almost a yr ago. if i would've known that the insurance company would do this to me, them i would've never bought the furniture. does anyone know how much it costs to have a portion of your furniture reupholstered or know of any websites where i can get quotes?

Open Question: What is the best replacement window material?

I just bought a home built in 1917. It needs new windows. It currently has single pane wood windows. What, in your opinion, is the best material to buy replacement windows. Vinyl, wood, or aluminum? Why do you think it is the best? Cost is a consideration also.

Open Question: Does it make a difference how you install the crown molding?

i just recently finished remodeling my house. sadly i found out after i finished everything that i installed the crown molding the opposite way i of the way all the installers on youtube do. my question is: does crown molding have a upper and lower side or does it go by how you prefer it? do you lose the effect when installing it wrongly, or it's just a matter of the colors you paint to make it stand out? thank you

Open Question: Need to create a flat surface for my backsplash. Any ideas?

So I have this ugly laminate material for my current backsplash circa 1980. I have purchased 12"x12" glass mosaic tile to replace the ugly stuff. We knew that thinset would never adhere to the laminate, so we tore it off. But now the drywall is damaged and unlevel.(see photo) http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s160/mcleary496/backsplash.jpg I'm looking for an alternative to having to use drywall compound to make it level. I would like to go right over it with some sort of building material. Something thinner than cement board, which is 1/4" thick. I would be happy with something that comes 1/8" thick so the new backsplash doesn't stick out too far next to the bare wall where the backsplash ends. (see diagram) http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s160/mcleary496/kitchenlayout.jpg I've been through Home Depot and Menards several times looking for ideas but have come up with no solution. HELP! BTW: Not open to removing the drywall and replacing with cement board. The hubby and I just spent today and yesterday repairing the drywall from where we found black mold last weekend behind the lower cabinets. In the process of removing the moldy drywall, we ended up cutting the vapor barrier by accident. An absolute bit*ch to fix! Cutting out the drywall for the backsplash is not an option!

Open Question: Is Decoupage and Decopatch same or different?

Also when you do Decoupage with different cutouts is there a technique that can make them all looked blended in and more "flowing"/professional so it doesnt look just like different pieces put together but for it to look like the paper is one piece if that makes sense?

Open Question: What bedding will match my style?

I love vintage things, old movies, dark pink, blues, golds, nothing to girly, but nothing to dark. These three bedding sets are the only ones I ever kind of liked. But the first and second match my stuff the most. Kohl's used to carry this bedding that I love but never bought: http://www.designerlinensoutlet.com/store/prodimages/big/cfs06433.jpg I like this delia's bedding a little but am not sure about it: http://store.delias.com/browse.do?categoryKey=roomwares.victorian&splashTrack=room&incmpid=Room07 And this kohl's bedding: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/bedandbath/brandsforbednew/daisyfuentes/bedding/PRD~c10453/daisy+fuentes+Glam+Bedding+Coordinates.jsp Do you know of anything similar with different colors or just similar? Or anything you know of that will look good. I am not asking which to buy, I am asking if you know of other bedding that will match what I like. I have searched and searched and cannot find anything. Thank you for your time it is appreciated. They are white right now with no window treatments. But I have some black furniture and gold framed pictures. I did pick different color combos but that is just me.
