Open Question: I can't tell for sure if the flooring in my living/dining room is hard wood or laminate.?It was here when we bought the house. It is pretty beat up in some spots. Open Question: building a wine cellar, what are some nice things to add?my grandpa loves to brew wine, and of coarse drink it. he loves to be able to do it himself, and i would really like to build an amazing wine cellar for him, but stay within a good budget so i can seem efficient. we are installing the wine cellar in the corner of a 12' ceiling garage. i am an electrician and very handy with everything already so i will be doing all the work. i think that i should put in some laddice and surround the corner like a semi room, or changing room would be like in a clothing store. i am also going to hang a chandelier and some high hats with eye balls on them. i will also be portioning off this portion of the garage with a pergo floor. the texture will be : hard wood wide plank medium dark tones. is there anything that i am missing or should add or to be extra nifty with? Open Question: Is A Peaceful Bedroom Possible? So, I'm redecorating my bedroom and I would like for my room to feel and look peaceful, the only problem is that I have a horrible old reddish salmon colored wall to wall carpet, and I'm not sure how the peaceful idea will work with that carpet. Any suggestions? P.S. I can't afford to take out the carpet :( P.S.S. I'm looking for colors to replace my lavender walls and also looking for decoration ideas if you can provide it :) I'm also pretty young so modern ideas are welcome too :) Open Question: Can small changes be done after house plans are approved/stamped?I just got my remodel plans back from the city. But I decided I want to move an entry door to the garage four feet to the left and move the washer/dryer location about six feet. My question is if this can be done without having to have the architect draw up new plans again or pay additional fees to the city and would the inspector not allow it? thank you Open Question: What types of things require permits?I have a list of things I'm going to do to my house and I was just wondering what types of things require permits. Some things I'm going to do on my own, and some are going to be hired. I'm selling the house in a couple of years and I just saw a thing on tv where they didn't get a permit and were stuck with big fines. I just had the carport roof replaced, I'm planning on putting in new countertops and tile in one room, pull out the bath surround and put in new dry wall, replace a door, replace some light fixtures, etc. I'm just wondering what types of things require a special permit. I'm in the US. Open Question: Decorating Ideas? Poster on wall?I have this beautiful scenery poster on my wall. It is gigantic sunset poster that greatly illustrates the theme of my room. The problem is that the edges of the poster are not straight and it really stands out and looks very bad. I have put a lot of effort putting the poster on the wall and the paper is very delicate that if I try to take it out it is going to rip. I know I know I should've measured the poster beforehand and all that. But, whatever's done is done now. I was thinking of getting some wall frame stickers to cover the edges so, that it looks like its framed. Why do you think?? Also, if anyone can give me so more ideas or tips it would be greatly helpful! Open Question: Okay. So does this look good?I have a medium sized room. & I want to decorate it. I'm thinking a feature wall that's brown and green. Like so.> http://www.resene.co.nz/wallpaper/preview.php?id=4715 & The rest of my walls brown. Then i would either paint my bedside table and draws a wood brown colour. Or leave them white. But would brown and green look funny with some white furnature? The i would get a wood base for my bed and a fluffly brown rug.. But the thing is my carpet is a REALLY light burkandy colour & It would cost heaps to get it removed and something else put in. PLus i am 14.. So i wont it to suit my older teenager years,.
