Open Question: I will be hiring an unlicensed student to install bathroom tile, what should be included in a signed contract?

This guy has done good work...I've seen pictures of work he has done. What should be included in a signed contract: The estimated time the installation should be done (no more than 7 hours)? I will not be held liable if something should happen to him? He will clean up when finished? He'll repair any damages done to the rest of the room? Anything else?

Open Question: Selling antique bedroom suite....need to know what to aks for it?

We have a Bassett Pecan king bedroom suite from the late 60's/ early 70's we want to sell. Not sure what to ask for it....comes with King headboard and frame, armoire, one bedside table and dresser with double mirrors. The only damage in to the surface of the bedside table...it's scratched up, someone wrote on the inside door of the armoire and one of the slats in the headboard has come loose. All of this in my opinion are very easy fixes. What should I ask for it?

Open Question: How much is this Banker's Lamp roughly worth?

I have sitting on my wardrobe in my bedroom an unusual banker's lamp. The shades usually only come in green, but the shade on this one looks to be black, until you turn the light on and then the shade turns to a deep purple colour. Also most don't come with a marble base and this particular one has a black marble base, a square base, and a black marble barrel to hold the light upright. Does anyone have a rough idea of how rare or the value of a piece like this?

Open Question: help me choose decorative pillows?

I've got a big bay area window in my family room that doesn't have a window seating space -- it is level with the floor. I want to decorate it with pillows. The walls are a tan/off white cream color and I have burgandy couches. The tv set and table is black, as is the coffee table. I'm thinking of throwing a bunch of throw pillows on the floor, I'd love some input on what pillows I should use. What colors, what size? How many? The space is a trapazoid with 4 feet on the short end and 8 feet on the other. The walls are at 45 degree angles.. kinda like: --------__4ft__ --4ft /______\ 4 ft -----------8ft There is a window on each 4 ft wall which is 1.5 feet off the ground. any design input would be greatly appreciated.

Open Question: Would it look alright to have one interior door in my home "flat" regular door, with the others being panel?

I want to replace interior doors with "2 panel doors" but they don't make a 22' for the lenin closet. it's a small door bumped very close to the other doors... would it look ok if it's painted with new hardware to match other doors?

I sand, primed and painted my kitchen cabinets with martha stewart eggshell latex paint. Can I do the second coat with martha sewart SEMI-GLOSS or GLOSS paint to reduce scratching and peeling? If I can, should I go with SEMI-GLOSS or GLOSS? I primed and painted last weekend and intend to put the 2nd coat of paint next weekend. Please let me know if I can still paint over the latex paint with semi-gloss or gloss latex paint. Thanks.

Open Question: Can somebody help me with my bedroom dilemma?

okay, so yeah i know i have terrible OCD. i've tried meds, but i had allergic reactions to the ones i tried, until my doctor simply gave up trying, and suggest i go to therapy, but the nearest therapist to me costs $110, and i have to see her on a weekly basis. Plus i really don't think i need therapy or drugs for that matter. i only have one problem, my bedroom. Maybe i don't have OCD, maybe i'm just bored out of my mind, and so i feel like i have to attack my room from all angles. You see, i've been dealing with alot of anxiety & stress, and i have chronic fatigue syndrome. i know people are like this, and still can work/study fulltime, but i can't bring myself to even get out of bed in the morning. (i am not depressed, just fatigue). My doctor is aware of all of this, and wants me to be put on antidepressants, but again, allergic reaction. So hes advise i take a year off to TRY and de-stress, not to work/study, just take some time on my own, to really think about life & what i want, and just to RELAX. (i've just finished highschool, so am taking my year off to enjoy myself). But my room is starting to frustrate me cos of my idle mind i think. i recently bought $3000 worth of bedroom items, but realised my room was TOO cluttered, so i decluttered everything (giving most of what i bought away to charities & others). but now my room is TOO bare, and i want it cluttered up again. its not just that though, the colors are all wrong (i didn't care much for colors matching or not matching in my life).. now cos i have browns & golds mixed in with blacks/whites, for some reason its giving me panic attacks. And when red goes ANYWHERE near black, i completely freak out, and i don't know WHY. WHY? i don't have any problems with cleaning (just rearranging), or germs, or having to check things multiple times (u know other OCD stuff). just my bedroom. i wish i saved that $3000, for an interior decorator. My mom said that she'd be willing to get one in to do my room, but she thinks it'll be a waste of money. i don't think so though. You see, i know if somebody 'professional' came into my room & completely redid it out for me, i'd be content & wouldn't touch it. but cos i'm redecorating it, i feel like i can't accept my own work sorta thing. like what i do is just not good enough, even if somebody came into my room, and told me it looked amazing, i still wouldn't believe them. HELP! also what i can't understand, is that im forever in my room making sure everything is STRAIGHT, and in alignment. but as im looking at it, i think the problem is THAT. its too straight. like its on display in a store, and that bedroom decor should be just scattered around. for example i've taken everything organised in my drawers, and just thrown it about everywhere (in the drawer), for example; i have 3 neat piles in my dresser drawer marked pajama tops, pajama shirts, and nightgowns.. now i've just mixed in tops/shirts & nightgowns together, and i feel for the first time HAPPY. but they're just drawers. i have ALOT of things i really want in my room, but for some reason, certain things (eg vanity products) can't come into my room, cos my fricken head won't allow it, it freaks out. so i keep everything i can't have in my room, in a spare room (our families guest room). if anybody has ANY advice for me, what is happening with me, let me know. c_kayak_; i don't see why you have to compare MY life with YOURS. everybody is different, we have different families, and how we were bought up is DIFFERENT. it seems like you had it pretty tough in your life finance wise. i didn't. my family were very financially stabled, because they worked their butts off to achieve what they now can enjoy & allow their children to enjoy also. just because you were ready at 18, doesn't mean every 18 year old is ready also. You should NEVER compare ones life with another. Though i've had a pretty sheltered life, i've had to deal with ill health since i was 6 months old including lukemia. this illness left a big toll on my body, and i've had to deal with it for most of my life. you try forcing yourself to school in the morning, even though you LOVE school, but can't cos you have little to NO energy in you. plus most girls in my year are all taking a year off. plus i gave $3000 to charity. wat r u tlking bout? ps.. you're saying that an 18 year with $3000 who scrimped & saved for it & was working part time while trying to juggle school & sickness, is being spoilt & immature? yes i could easily asked my parents for the money & get it with a snap of my fingers, but i don't work like that, and wasn't raised that way. we've always learnt as children to give unto others, and expect nothing in return. yep! i'm spoilt, okay, whatever. ps.. you're saying that an 18 year old with $3000 who scrimped & saved for it & was working part time while trying to juggle school & sickness, is being spoilt & immature? yes i could easily asked my parents for the money & get it with a snap of my fingers, but i don't work like that, and wasn't raised that way. we've always learnt as children to give unto others, and expect nothing in return.
