Answers would be much appreciated thanks! Open Question: Should we build a portico and porch?We bought a one story ranch, a post WWII home in an older neighborhood. Most of the houses on our street are similar. We thought we would make our house stand out by building a small portico and a front porch. It will cost about $5000, but the city will subsidize up to 20% of the costs. I think we will enjoy the use of the porch. I am worried however that the portico will end up sticking out too much in our neighborhood. Is a portico a good investment for our house long-term? Is it something that will impress potential buyers (we're not looking to sell anytime soon, but we're thinking long-term) or are we better off doing something with the interior of the house (bathrooms could use upgrades, basement could use remodeling) or fixing up the back patio? Anyone else have experiences adding something like this to their house? The contractor is 4 days into the job and I am really pleased with his work. This seems like a low price to me though, and I thought about offering maybe 15% more after completion.
