I have an engineered solid wood tongue and groove floor.?It came with a varnish on and I assumed that would be good enough, I didnt give it a second thought really but of course, having had no seal over the top of the floor after it being laid, spills have gotten in between the tiny gaps between the planks, again this hasn't been a problem so far but Im sure that it may become one in years to come. The floor has been down a year and it has lost the sheen that it had and i'm constantly nervous about spills getting between the planks. I want to sand it all back slightly to get a key and to take out the imperfections that have occurred through parties etc and then go over the whole floor again with a high quality varnish that will last at least ten years but being no carpenter I dont know what to buy. I want to make sure I buy a good product as I dont want to be doing this again any time soon. We throw alot of parties and have a busy house so a good product is essential. We originally had stripped pine floor boards which we varnished with the "very best" wickes own product as we were on a budget and the results were poor very quickly, I don't want to make the same mistake again and thankfully budget is not too much of an issue now so can anyone help me get this right? Many thanks Open Question: Which one should I sell? ripped settee or small one? Here is my problem, I have two settees. One is a perfect fit to where i want to put it, although it is ripped down the middle. The other one is small for where I want to put it. I only have room for one. Therefore should I sell the small one and get the big one fixed (i do not know how much it will cost) or do i sell the big one to someone who will get it fixed and keep the small one which does not look right. Also as i do not know how much it will cost to get the big one fixed. it is faux leather, the seam, which is what is ripped is in a T shape on the settee (along the back and down the middle of the chair). I do not have a lot of money and therefore if it is going to cost to much to repair i will have to get rid of that one. Any comments appreciated! Open Question: Which Paint for Stair Banister?Hi, we are going to paint the stair banister white, but it is currently shiny/dark brown (wood effect). presume we will need to sand it down before painting? if so is there any certain sander we need to use? once sanding is done which paint do we use? i.e do we need base coats etc obviously we need it so it can be used frequently and not show up finger prints and easy to clean. thanks for all your help and advice in advance!!
