Open Question: finishing pine walls - is it really this difficult?we have renovated our kitchen and have finally got to the stage where we can finish the walls. we have pine tongue + groove walls and i would like to use a white semi-transparent stain. problem is we can not find a stain in white. they have lots of other color choices but for some reason they don't have white and apparently you can not add color to clear stains. so my question is: can i thin out paint enough to make it semi-transparent and have it look decent? if this can be done what would i use to thin the paint? does anyone out there have any experience in this? any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thank you. All the woodwork in the house is stained a dark cherry color and the walls are an off-white. The windows themselves are a bright white vinyl. If I can only find solids really cheap than I can always accent tile with something nicer.
