Open Question: How does extreme makover home edition help anyone?They come in, build ridiculously large and lavish homes, then leave the new owner the "gift" (but they owner is stuck paying for the home)...am I the only one that this confuses? This isn't a blessing. The current home owners could just build their own house that they can't afford if they wanted to. I just don't understand why everyone acts like this is just an amazing blessing, when many of these homes are being foreclosed on because the owners can't afford the payments. It reminds me of an episode of growing up Ghotti (or something like that), where the mom "bought" her daughter a car. She acted all excited to give her this "gift"...it was like a BMW. Then she told her daughter that she would be making her own payments on it every month. How is that a gift? The original owners had a dry bar put in the dining room - which is right at the front of the house. I own the home and have been getting price quotes to resurface (countertop paint) the counters, not sure how the quality of countertopt paint is.... Open Question: I'm ripping up old, nasty carpet in a back porch that I've discovered the cats like to...?..."mark". What should I expect? I plan on ripping up the carpet, "scrubbing" the wood floor underneath, treating it with something like kilz or another sealer, and then laying down tile. I'm sure the wood underneath has remained damp from the cat urine. That area of the carpet stinks to high heaven. Any recommendations on what to scrub the wood with to get the stain/smell out and then what to seal it with before putting down the tile? How long should I wait between phases-scrubbing, treatment, putting down tile? Any advice would be MUCH appreciated.
