Open Question: how can i go about painting a room in a rented house?

so we just found a house we want to rent, and to be honest it is a bit of a dump!.. the kitchen, lounge room and everywhere but one room is a pale sickly baby blue colour.. now my bedroom happens to be a pale sickly PINK - that's right PINK, and it's a very tacky paint job at that... every wall and even the ceiling! Since the house is crying out for a paint, and really does look ugly how it is.. Is is just completely out of the question for me to ask the house owners if i could paint this one horrible room? Would it be a really weird thing to ask? - ive never been in a rented house before..
