Open Question: Is there a way to get new (and cheap) wood chess pieces looking old and weathered quickly ?

I found a really cool looking old weathered and beat up Chess board/box (It looks like it came off the deck of a naval vessel from the 1700's). I want to get pieces that have the same weathered/beat up feel to them. I found some cheap wood chess pieces at a consignment shop and now I want to try to get them to look as aged and beat up as the board so they match. Is there any way to do this quickly with a minimum of fuss without having to leave the pieces outside in the sun/rain/snow for a few years ?
