Open Question: Wood staining Stain +polyurethane?So I'm re-staining my kitchen cabinets and I really like the true color of the stain (red oak). I have to stain the cabinets (oak) about 4 times to get close to the color but it's still more brownish than I like.. I'm not even sure if its even soaking anymore up. I've read two things online that could help get the true color of the stain. 1. Leaving some of the excess on the wood and then coating it. From wikihow video http://www.wikihow.com/Stain-Wood 2. Putting some stain in the polyurethane from someone's wikianswer Please any advice would be useful Open Question: Can someone help me with a decorating tip?We just had our kitchen remodeled. We have maple cabinets, white appliances, and a dark counter top which is almost black with a little bit of the maple color of the cabinets in it. We had the walls painted one shade up from eggshell called muslin white but I am regretting this now because of the white appliances. My husband doesn't want to have the whole thing painted again so I was thinking of having an accent wall but have no idea what color to do it in. Any thoughts? The reason we chose white in the first place is because it is a small kitchen only 10 x10 or 11. By the way, we haven't picked out a floor yet but I imagine we will choose something lighter than the counter top of course but not too light and definitely not white. Open Question: Should I install soffit myself?I am having a roof built over my deck. The size is approx12 ft by 11 ft and would like soffit to look more finished. I am fairly handy with DIY projects but have never dealt with soffit before. Is it worth paying by contractor an extra $650 for him do do this or is it easy enough for me to handle. Any tips or advice. My concern is the long span and dropping. It is not the roof, I am hiring a pro to do it. Its anew roof over the deck. He wants an additional $650 to finish the underside (12 ft by 11ft ) with sofffit trim. The cost of the roof is much more. I need everything, a fitted sheet, flat sheet, blanket, dust ruffle, bumpers...the works for a standard sized crib. Alot of heavy use even with regular cleaning my bathroom has accumulated alot of mildew, mold and hardwater stains causing my bathroom to look yuckie! Im going to home depot or lowes to get a heavy duty mildew and mold remover a grout cleaner and maybe a grout renewer? I hear its kind of like paint to make everything all white again ? Well the little cleaners you buy in a food store didnt work so onto the heavy stuff. Ive even tried light bleach.
