I learned something today. I had honestly never heard of this group, but sounds exactly like the non-wackjob (represented here, very loudly) MRAs I knew several years ago. Thanks to Ashleigh for posting about it! "Welcome to our online home! NOMAS is celebrating its 35th year with our National Conference on Men & Masculinity (M&M), and the 22nd Annual Men's Studies Association Meeting in conjunction with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) 14th National Conference on Domestic Violence: Changing Faces of the Movement, in Anaheim, CA, August 1-4, 2010." I actually was working with the NCADV at the time! See, now this? If we could just get more men here representing men's rights this way, people like me who genuinely ARE pro-equality wouldn't be having to fight not to equate MRA with "lunatic woman-hating wannabe rapists." QUESTION: So, what do our MRA guys here think about this? All of it, of course, but things like the following, especially? Is there room in your ideology for ideas like this? Are you ready to defuse the battle of the sexes? And do you have any other positive activist sites like this? (Clue: Any of the ones that want to decriminalize rape are out.) 12 Steps Men Can Take to End Sexism 1. Don't interrupt women when they speak, control their space, or assume they need your protection. Focus on the effect of your actions, rather than on the intent. 2. Support women's leadership and help elect progressive women to political office. 3. Support women's equality in education, sports, and in the workplace. 4. Don't condone, laugh at, or tell sexist (racist or homophobic) jokes or stories. 5. Don't make fun of or invalidate anyone's emotional reactions. 6. Listen, believe, and be accountable to women and their stories. When confronted on your own sexism (racism, homophobia, etc.) listen instead of getting defensive. 7. Tell the women and men in your life that you love them, out loud. 8. Be the kind of father you always wanted to have. 9. Be the kind of partner you would want your children's partner to be. 10. Share responsibility for birth control and reproductive health and safety. 11. Speak up when you see violence or abuse directed at women or children, in real life, or in the media. Donate to a local rape crisis, sexual assault, and domestic violence program. 12. Oppose pornography and the sex industry. http://www.nomas.org/ Well, I was born and raised christian, now am 15, and I just find it utter bullshit. Before I continue, do NOT tell me that jesus exists or anything, you truly won't change my mind, so just try to get 10 points or something.... Okay, so my mom is over protective, not understanding, and will probably try to convince me that he is real. She's a real nut, she always uses "This is such a jesus doing" for the simplest things... Like finding a fucking parking space.... Whenever I don't go to church, she leaves acting as if she understands why (Normally I don't feel good, and later on I do) than comes home to find I'm being active, and she just acts like a total bitch. I want to tell her because she FORCES me to go to church, and I find this completely fucked up. Whenever I go, if I end up ditching when it's time for the sunday school class, I don't go, and she gets all mad and shit... I want to tell her, it's just I don't know how. ]: any ideas?
