Open Question: Thinking of remodeling kitchen and bathroom?

We are looking into the idea of remodeling our kitchen and bath. The biggest issue in both rooms is water damage to OLD plaster walls. So our basic idea is to rip down plaster and put in new drywall, paint, and presto new rooms. There will be no structure changes at all just simply redoing walls and ceilings. My question is do I have to get permits in order to do this? I was told since it is all inside work and I am not changing the structure of the house I don't need to?!?!? Is this correct, PLEASE HELP!! I am in Illinois by the way! Yes I know it will be a huge mess. And as far as knowing how to hang drywall my boyfriend worked hanging and finshing drywall for years during and after high school so I am pretty sure we can get that done just fine. Was not really asking if it would be messy or if I should hire a pro. The walls will all be down to the studs and some plumbing as far as updating the fixtures in the tub/shower and on the sink in bathroom. Thank you, me.

Open Question: WEDDING CENTERPIECES: Instead of floating candles, what can I use to put in a glass vase with water?

My wedding center pieces are going to be something with a clear glass vase with water in it and a mirror for those vases to sit on. My only problem is-- is that the venue of my reception doesn't allow candles. What can I put in those vases with water instead of floating candles? Any ideas? I thought of fake flowers but will fake flowers float or sink? HELP!
