Open Question: What's a good quote for electrical work? and more... Open Question: What's a good quote for electrical work?We are looking at finishing our basement in a home that is only 2 years old. There is electricity in the basement for laundry hook up, 5 lights, and only one outlet. As we finish the basement, this is obviously not enough. Here's what we are doing- 3 rooms - totaling 1250 square feet 3 switches, one for each room 16-18 total outlets 1 outlet designed for a fish tank 2 of our lights will be converted to hold 2 bulbs instead of the one that is already there 3 of our lights will be converted to put up track lighting baseboard electric heat will be put in with thermostats- 2 eight footers and 1 six footer in the big room, 1 six footer in the office, and none in the laundry room We've had a few people give us quotes and they seem high to me. Although, I know nothing of this type of work, so I might just be unrealistic. The cost does include all parts except for the actual fixture for track lighting. Our quotes are between $19,000 and $24,000. One guy would be doing all the work and they each said it would take about 2 1/2 to 3 days to get done. I guess it seems like a lot to me being that the base work is already there and up to code. Nothing needs to be replaced or redone. What do you think? sorry...i meant $1900-$2400 Open Question: which wood is stronger out of birch and soft maple?Open Question: How can you get the same access to shops that a professional decorator has?Would I need to open my own furniture company? Can I start a staging business to get access? Do you need to have a degree in decorating or some typr of certificate to get access? Open Question: What size header for a 12FT span.?I do not want to use a microlamb because of cost. So is a 2 X 12 doubled up(+1/2"ply in middle) enough for a 12.5 FT span.? I will be using 4 jack studs on either side too. tnx Open Question: I was planning on having my basement finished. Could I wait to have the stamped decorative concrete floor done?until after the walls are framed out and sheetrocked and painted and the drop ceiling installed? It would make it a lot easier as far as painting and dealing with any mess. Does this work to do the stamped concrete after everything else? In general, does the type of flooring you are choosing affect the order in which you would proceed in finishing a basement? Open Question: a room is 10ft long and 12 feet wide and 8 ft tall......what is the linear footage of the room?Open Question: Help with a Red Paint Fiasco!!!?I had wallpaper in my bathroom that was stripped. There was also holes in the wall from a towel rack the prior owner decided to glue to the drywall. So there is some larger patchwork with spackle. I sanded the spackle down as best as I could. I got the new Behr Ultra Premium paint (Dare Devil Red) that has a built in primer. I applied the first coat last night and it looks terriable. You can see all the patchwork ( the paint went on darker around the patches). All the brush strokes are visable. Also the color is much lighter than what was intended and the paint is kinda soupy and hard to work with much like regular primer. Im thinking about going to a mocha brown. Should I reprime the red, or do you think I should give the red a few more coats. More Recent Articles
