Open Question: Average cost of materials for building a house?

My boyfriend and I plan on getting married next year, at which time we will move in together. I've been looking at housing prices for already-built homes, and came across some empty lot prices at the same time. They seem pretty reasonably priced, and I thought about building our own home instead of buying one that is already built. However, I have no idea how much materials would cost. But my family does own a lumber company, so the cost of all lumber (wood) is of no significance. I'm wondering how much it costs for things like the foundation, concrete, insulation, roofing, siding, etc. I don't know how much difference this makes, but we only plan on having a bungalow. We do not want a two-storey house. I do not need to know the costs for contents of the house. I'm only looking for the cost of materials. We will probably be able to build ourselves, for the most part, as our families both are quite handy.

Open Question: have you ever used different kinds of breads for a table decoration?

I want to put some different types of breads in a basket to be used as a table centerpiece. Have you ever sprayed them with polyurethane to keep them from flaking and perserving them? Does anyone have any ideas that are similar to mine? Thanks in advance.

Open Question: Looking for some decorating ideas for my girls' bedroom....?

I have a 7 year old and a 2 year old. The 2 year old is still in her own room but I bought bunk beds for when she is old enough to share a room with her sister, so that I can turn her room into a toy room. We painted the walls a light shade of purple two years ago so anything that would go with purple. The carpet is an off white/cream color. I just got myself a sewing machine and I'm interested in making my own things as well so any ideas or tips in that regard would also be helpful. Please help...with color ideas and such, that would make both kids happy! I'm pretty clueless about this stuff yet!! Thank you!

Open Question: What is the best way to remove adhesive from textured walls?

My living room and kitchen have wood panneling and wainscotting. The walls behind the panneling are nice textured walls but there is a small bead of adhisive that was used when the panneling was installed. I want to remove the panneling and paint the walls. Is there away to remove the adhesive that will preserve the texture on the walls so I can repaint, or is my only option to sand down the walls where the adhesive lines are and then try to retexture them to blend with the rest of the walls before repainting?
