Open Question: What was that show where couples picked items, re-decorated, and only got to keep if in price range?

What was that tv show where couples picked stuff out of catalogs and then it was spread out over their yard. They'd have like an hour or two to decorate their room and get within like a $100 of a certain price. If they got it in the price range they kept all the stuff and if not it was taken away. It was on several years ago on one of those home channels.

Open Question: is it advisable to wear contact lens in a sauna room or steam room?

well, I've checked the "Do's and Don't" sign outside of the both of the rooms, they didn't mention anything about 'not to wear contact lens'. But a friend of mine told me NOT to wear it because it will cause discomfort and it will worn out your contact lens, is this true?

Open Question: Wall art for a mission themed living room?

In my apartment I'm moving into in a few months I'm doing a Mission Themed room and was wondering what type of artwork should be used? I can't seem to find anything online that I would even consider close to the style. I mean Mission/Craftsman Style I'm looking in the blue/green area but it's not limited and price doesn't matter because I'm looking more for inspiration now

Open Question: Has anyone switched from a king-size bed to queen-size?

Were you happy with the smaller bed, or did you feel crowded? Both of us are small- to average-size (weight and height), and we sleep pretty close, but we've had a king bed for several years and are nervous about the adjustment. I want to switch to save space in our room, but hubby isn't convinced.

Open Question: Can I paint with primer only without paint?

I want to paint a dark green room white. I am going to use a high hiding primer. But, as the primer is white already, if I am OK with pure white walls, do I have to use paint over it? Does the paint gives some extra protection? Thanks.

Open Question: Stairs...what to do? carpet or stain and keep wood look?

Ok.. we have stairs in the garage that lead up to an apartment above our in-laws house. We don't want to spend alot of money on carpeting stairs since this is only going to be our temporary home. We need ideas on what to do? the condition of them now is plywood with carpet tacks..lol... so if that helps... We have thought of painting them white and putting a grey outdoor/office type carpet runner ( since it is in the garage it does not need to be fancy... at all!!) Then we had the idea of just staining them and keeping their wood look?!? not sure what to do!! any ideas? We need this to be cheap and not tooooo hard... thanks in advance!!

Open Question: installing a room-to-room fan from the utility room to the playroom?

Our basement has a utility room and adjacent to it a finished room. The finished room is quite cold in the winter; it does have vents, but they are not letting enough air in (fixing this would require duct work). The utility room on the other hand is quite warm, since the air is warmed by the radiant heat from the flue. We heat with natural gas.

I am now thinking of installing a room-to-room fan from the utility room to the playroom to take advantage of the 'free' heat. The concern that I have is whether there is a health risk. Is the air from the utility room not healthy, because of the gas heater? Is there a significant risk of carbon monoxide poisoning? Our gas heater is about 9 years old and has been maintained well (just replaced the heat exchanger due to tiny hair size cracks). The door to the utility room is also vented. We also have a carbon monoxide alarm system. Nevertheless, I'd like to know if using the warm air from the utility room is a good practice.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Open Question: Electricians: Who stocks Lightolier recessed trims for 3 3/4" incandescent cans?

I have a job that's 1 1/2 away from home, and it had a lot of these cans throughout the unit, but in one location the builder missed a can, and left it covered up by drywall. So now I need to find a matching trim. If you're unfamiliar, Lightolier cans are part of the trim, and connect to the socket, so no other brand or type of trim would work in it's place. I really need to get a hold of one tomorrow morning and don't know who carries them in stock, and the internet has not been very helpful, as all the suppliers I know of fail to list their products... thanks.

Open Question: Removing lead paint from a dresser?

Hi, We were just given a really old dresser that we suspect was painted with lead paint. As we'd like to use the dresser in a future kid's room, we want to be sure to get rid of the lead paint!! What's the best way to do this, and how much should it cost? I plan on calling some furniture refinishers tomorrow and getting some quotes, but what's a reasonable price? Thanks!!
