Open Question: How much will it cost to repaint my wooden bedroom furniture?

I know I need to sand it and some other stuff but could someone tell me all the steps I need to take to do it, and the approximate cost for just one tin of paint and other 'special paints' (don't know the names).

Open Question: How can I make modern or contemporary decor look warm and inviting like Shabby Chic or romantic decor?

I'm moving in with my boyfriend and he has given me $10,000 to completely decorate our new apartment. (Yea!) The problem is he loves contemporary and modern pieces like this dining room table http://www.jensen-lewis.com/product.php?pid=00000695, and I like everything but. My favorite style is shabby chic. I like most things vintage, romantic, and fresh or airy feeling. Here are some pictures of the type of decorating I like: http://www.erasofelegance.com/home/shabbychic11.jpg http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/4786299/ShabbyChic-main_Full.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2225/2491624249_d418c91d5c.jpg How would I mix these two styles or if that's impossible, what style might accommodate both of us? I am pretty flexible, I just don't want to feel like I'm living in a spaceship.

Open Question: Brick versus Carpet in house fire?

My parents had a small house fire today. Thank god, everyone is ok! I just had a simple question, my dad built the house several years ago, the hallway that the fire started in was entirely brick with a coating of polyurethane on it. the fire didn't spread much only throughout the hallway. I was wondering does the brick flooring have anything to do with it not spreading as much? I was thinking if it was carpet it probably would have spread a lot faster than it did on brick. Would that have made a difference at all?
