Open Question: Are Geiger counters the faux granite countertops they sell at Costco?I'm concerned about radon emissions from my granite counters and my neighbour suggested getting a Geiger counter Open Question: does anyone have a recommendation for a really good kitchen trash can?we have had the typical expensive, round stainless steel one for years and it's pretty, but doesn't function well. the bags don't stay, the trash is full before the bag is half full, etc. has anyone solved this problem yet? i would like it to look nice, but i'd rather it function well. thank you! Open Question: how to remove krylon glass frosting?Open Question: Rough estimate on small bathroom remodeling?I have no idea what a fair price would be. Remove sink, toilet and tub and replace with new shower stall. Remove all wall tile and paint. I would also need tile on the floor. It is roughly 7"x 11". Oh, I forgot! Of course a new sink and toilet. Nothing fancy, just functional. Would really appreciate hearing from somebody! Open Question: Wet carpet in a basement bedroom, with no discernable leak?We are in a basement unit of a 4 plex. We sit directly on a concrete foundation/slab and to my knowledge there are no pipes running through the concrete. We have baseboard heating, but I haven't noticed the pipes leaking that run through it. This is not on an adjoining wall to a bathroom (that I know of, but it could be wet under a shelf and we don't know because it' s a huge heavy shelf that we haven't moved). The spot is in a sliver of space no more than 8 or 9 inches between our bed and the shelf. But it goes for a couple feet. It seems more moist and damp than truly wet though. As far as I know there is no plumbing in the wall, and we have a french drain system and sump pump on the outside so it shouldn't be anything leaking from the outside. We live in Alaska, if that helps at all. Open Question: Ugly green carpet....HELP!!?I don't mind the idea of carpet but not the color hunter green. We bought a mobile home as a temp home for the next few years until we build our dream home. I have started remodeling the mobile home but I can't convince my husband to pull up the carpet and lay down wood flooring. So I was wondering if there is any type of dye that I can put in the carpet so that it better matches my home. Or does anyone else have any ideas for flooring?? Open Question: i am wondering how the furniture is from "bob's furniture"?my husband will be home from Afghanistan in a few months...and we will need to get some furniture..i'm sure everyone has seen the commercials where you can get 2 sofas end tables, a coffee table and lamps for something like 800 dollars. sounds like a good deal! i was wondering if anyone has any furniture from this place and how the quality of it is. thanks so much. Open Question: We are getting our basement finished. We told our contractor that we would like to have a built in bookcase.?He showed us a picture and quoted a cost of $795. He also built us two benches. We asked him for the total cost and his reply was "I'll work out an estimate but it shouldn't be too much money". One day we came home to find that he already put up a bench and part of the bookshelf was completed. The bill for the two benches and the bookshelf totaled $4000! That was no where near what we wanted to spend. Since we didn't get an official estimate from him before he started the bookshelf, do we have to pay this amount? He stated that he put in 37 hours of labor at $40/hr plus the cost of the materials. Help! The cost of these benches and bookshelf is 1/6 the entire cost of our whole basement project! Thanks!
