Open Question: Help! What to do after putting new paint over high gloss paint?

I am an idiot and did not check to see if the paint I was painting over was gloss or not. It looks pretty darn flat, but as I was painting the wall, I noticed my paint would peel and rip off in chunks if I tried to run the roller over it a second time. Of course, instead of stopping, I painted the entire room. About half the paint took, and it looks terrible. Should I try to paint a second coat of the new paint over the top and hope it sticks, or should I clean the wall with mineral spirits, sand it, prime it, and start all over? I am so disappointed because I bought the highest quality paint and hate to waste half a gallon.

All suggestions are great but really I would like an answer from someone who actually has the sheets and has slept on them. Thanks.
