Open Question: What kind of plywood should i use for a dog house?

I'm planning on building a dog house for my pups but i don't know if there is a certain type of plywood i should use or if it matters. Like treated, sanded, pine, or whatever else there is. Your ideas would really help! Thanks!

Open Question: Why do people still use shutters on houses?

Although I'm sure they used to serve a purpose, shutters on windows are purely for decoration in most residential homes. I'm referring to the kind that are basically just nailed to the side of the windows and don't open and close. What do you think of this?

Open Question: Where can I find a nice japanese style ceramic tea set?

I'm going off to college this fall and I really want a nice set to bring with me, but since there won't be to much space I would keep it in a plastic tub or something so as much as I would like a beautiful delicate set that just won't work.

Open Question: I've never had a shower curtain before. What will I need?

My boyfriend and I are moving to a new apartment and it has a shower rod in it. While this may be pretty common for everyone, every place I've ever lived has had sliding doors on the shower. I'm looking into shower curtains, but I'm not sure if I can get away with just a curtain? Is there a type of curtain I should use to not buy a liner? Do I -need- a liner? ^^; Thanks!

Open Question: Recessed Lighting - When to Use "Slope" Hardware?

I'm just curious if anyone can lead me in the right direction here. I am about to embark on a project this weekend to add recessed lighting in our living room. The ceiling has a slope of exactly 10 degrees (a drop of 2.5 ft across a 14 ft wide room). If I want to do this right, should I use "slope" hardware (housing, trim, etc)? I ask as it seems the numbers I see on all of these types of hardware indicate they should be used for ceilings with a slope of between 9 and 27 degrees. I realize that I am just barely inside this range, and ... well ... the difference between 0deg and 10deg is not far from the distance between 10deg and 18deg (the latter being the "average" of the recommended angle for this hardware). Basically, will using sloped hardware on 10 degrees look better or worse than using normal (0 deg) hardware on 10 degrees? Thanks in advance for your help!

Open Question: I really want this house, any advice?

I fell in love with a house today. It's perfect for my husband and I. However, we discovered in the basement that there is evidence of past termite damage (which is really weird because there are not termites in the area in which we live), but it wasn't extensive, just a few joists. The house is over 100 years old and the termite damage and foundation stuff (someone had plastered over the limestone foundation and the plaster is coming off) were about the only two things that we found that was major. What are the chances that the seller (a flipper) will fix this and how serious is it? Basically, I need someone to talk me out of it....lol

Open Question: Egress Window Cost and Sq. Ft. question?

I would like to finish our basement. The basement walls are poured concrete. The house is on a small hill, and basement walls are largely exposed. This keeps me from having to dig a well for the windows to meet code. I am wondering what the cost is to have the windows cut in poured concrete. I am a little weary of doing it myself since I haven't found much literature on cutting poured walls just block walls. I (and my brother) would frame and install the window. I am also curious about the cost of egress windows. I will be making two bedrooms, so I will need to install two windows. Now a question about square footage. If I finish the whole basement. Would I be able to count the whole basement's square footage or just the two rooms with the windows? I know I cant get exact figures, but would appreciate best guess ballpark price. I live in the St. Louis, MO area
