Open Question: Help with my stairs, the landing is dangerous for small children.?

We live in an old stone farmhouse and our stairs are a danger to small children. As you walk up the stairs, the landing is completely open the whole length of the stairs and around the other end of the stairs. This is approximately 14ft in and length and app. another 3 ft around the corner. The banisters are made of oak timber from an old ship and are, by no means, straight. The depth varies in places by as much as 2 inches, therefore not a consistent size for spindles. We considered fitting perspex to make it safer ? With metal fittings of some description ! Any ideas?

Open Question: I have a purple carpet and gray and black furniture- what color do I paint the walls?

I can't figure out what colr to paint the walls... we bought 4 large square mirrors with a stained glass looking design etched in them to go over the back of the couch... the accent pillows on the couch have black and purple roses embroidered on them and the chaise lounge is black (microfiber all) As I mentioned above we also have purple carpeting and a black area rug- I don't want it to look too "art deco" so to speak... but I want to keep it modern with a clean crisp look to it- any recommendations (besides your basic white/beige??) HELP!! going to get the paint soon!!!!

Open Question: Redecorating my room...posh luxury theme help?

I'm redecorating my room from scratch...absolutely nothing. I have always loved a posh/luxury theme found in poshtots.com but they are a bit too pricey. Is there another good website for finding what I'm looking for. Im thinking maybe a vintage, Anastasia, or Marie Antoinette theme.

Open Question: what are some ideas on how to use Pampered Chef Simple Addition square bowls?

I bought the square bowls from Pampered Chef (simple additions line) and was wondering if anyone has other uses for them (besides storing food). I'd love to see if you used it for organization, on a desk, decoration, etc. Show pictures if you have them. My husband says I have to get rid of them if I can't find more uses for them!

Open Question: looking for a wider couch any ideas?

the couches we have now are .... well to explain it in less words we have a one yr old and they are suede. I really don't like them they are very basic and i want to start shopping for new ones. My question is, is there such thing as a wider couch? What i mean is, our couch is very narrow so if you want to snuggle on it, even with my daughter it is not wide enough to fit us both comfortably. If you have a the type of couch or have seen it before, can you tell me who makes it? i dont want to go lay in a bunch of couches in a showroom haha that would be weird.
