Open Question: How do I correct an issue with wood flooring float installation?

I am installing an engineered wood floor in my new house. I did not notice a board being off (I think it was warped). On one of the corners it had a gap between it and the board in the previous row. When I go to install the next course of boards, that board is sticking out slightly below the line of the boards I'm installing against. This causes another bigger gap from the board that butts against it. I tried to split the difference and have a smaller gap on either side, hoping that in the next row it would correct itself. Two rows later, I notice my boards are off again in the same area...but now it's two boards. This is hard to explain, but if you've done this before, you may know what I'm talking about. This is a float installation, so any solutions should not include nailing or gluing to the subfloor. Any help would be much appreciated.

What would you name a plastic arm rest on a aluminum chair? The plastic is black but has the appearance and feel of wood because it has lines like wood.

Open Question: Self levelling/Latex screed?

Hi - I have old smooth floor tiles in my kitchen and would like to fit a vinyl floor. Can anyone please advise if i should use a self levelling compound or latex screed on the floor before i add the vinyl. The room is about 12msq and im assuming any of the above treatments should get rid of the grout lines and any other irregularities. Which one and what to buy is the confusing part?! Thanks in advance.

Open Question: Plastering question - Please can you advise?

Hi - I am going to have my whole kitchen dot and dabbed this weekend. The plasterer has asked for some PVA to brush the walls down with before he applies the adhesive and boards. The walls are a mixture of old brick and stone and are currently very dusty. Even though he is going to apply the PVA on the day, would it be a good idea if i 'washed' down the walls with some diluted PVA before he arrives? My reasoning is that they are currently VERY dusty and endless brushing still breaks away the old gray mortar and dust. The kitchen is over 30 years old. Thanks in advance.

Open Question: How much does an Interior designer charge?

Hi Im looking at using an Interior Designer to look at giving an overhaul to some rooms in my home (Dining Room, Lounge, TV room and kitchen) but would like to know what is a standard rate charged for this service? Is this normally charged per hour or room and if so how long would a job take. I want a redesign, new wall-coverings, layout, furniture etc. How much should i expect to be charged? I live in the UK, North West

Open Question: Where can I find wacky window curtains?

I am looking everywhere online but I can't find anything cool. I want new curtains for my room. I saw that they were selling shower curtains with "police line-do not cross" yellow tape artwork across them. I would love that in window curtains. Does anyone know where to get wacky window curtains like that online? Does anyone know if there is any place that can custom make curtains for a fairly good price?

Open Question: Are my design ideas for my bedroom too disjointed?

I know I want to paint my bedroom a medium to light gray, and with white furniture. I like mod style so I would add some art like this http://www.target.com/Sowash-Morning-Doves-Canvas-Giclee/dp/B002Q77RWE/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&searchView=grid5&qid=1268666427&frombrowse=0&fromGsearch=true&node=1038576|1287991011&keywords=bird%20wall%20art&searchSize=30&id=Sowash%20Morning%20Doves%20Canvas%20Giclee&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Ctarget_com_age%2Ctarget_com_gender-bin%2Ctarget_com_character-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchNodeID=1038576|1287991011&searchRank=target104545&sr=1-21&searchPage=3 Except paint it myself. I also might add some white floating shelves. I want white curtains, but I'm not sure what type of comforter to get. Should I get a plain gray comforter and add bright pillows? Or a comforter with a cool print? Like this http://www.target.com/DwellStudio-Target-Orbit-Comforter-Set/dp/B001IZLMFS/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&searchView=grid5&qid=1268666611&frombrowse=0&fromGsearch=true&node=1038576|1287991011&keywords=comforter&searchSize=30&id=DwellStudio%20Target%20Orbit%20Comforter%20Set&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Ctarget_com_age%2Ctarget_com_gender-bin%2Ctarget_com_character-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchNodeID=1038576|1287991011&searchRank=target104545&sr=1-7&searchPage=2 I want the pops of color to be orange and lime green. I also love natural elements and I have a large built in bookshelf that I would like to put rocks/sand/shells in jars...would that look mismatched? Any other ideas? I also like these two lamps, I'm not sure which would match better. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=13445399 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hometrends-Nova-Lamp-Base/13265370
