Open Question: I am wanting to remove a load bearing wall but don't want to have a beam with a post in the middle of my room.?

The span is to long to just have the beam supported by the exterior walls. Is there a way to support the roof without installing a beam, maybe modifying the roof trusses or something like that. Any ideas?

Open Question: How do I get the extra glue and underlay off of my tiles?

We just ripped the carpet out of a room in my basement. The underlay was REALLY glued down and we had to use drywall scrapers to peel it off. But in some areas it is stuck and over the rest of the floor there is glue and little foamy pieces from the underlay, so now, how do we get it off? Any suggestions??
