Open Question: is 5 ton ac good for 1250SF main floor, 400sf Attic rooms, 750SF basement house?I live in the southeast. I am concerned about the size of the unit. My house was built in 1940, poorly insulated although we are remodeling and redoing the whole house. I transformed the crawl space into a basement if you will. The basement is very humid in teh summer because we ended up going 30 inches below dirt so it does accumulate humidity and moisture but I do have a french drain and a sump pump. I am planning to use this 5 ton unit carrier puron r-401a for the whole house and possibly we will add an extra room about 320sf more. So the total cooling space is now about 2400SF give or take. My other option is with a 4 ton heat pump instead. what is the most economical and what do you experts suggest? Your advice is appreciated! (: Open Question: How do I get rid of a fake wood overlay on vinyl windows?Some of the vinyl windows in the new house I just bought are clear white vinyl and look very nice. Some of the vinyl windows have a fake wood veneer overlay and I really don't like them. Does this veneer usually peel off and look decent underneath or is it something I would have to sand off and try to refinish? I would have a better idea on how to approach it but we don't close for a couple weeks yet and I can't get into the house to look at them in detail but am trying to plan out what to do for paint and trim colors.
