Open Question: Restoring the finish on a matte black desk? and more... Open Question: Restoring the finish on a matte black desk?My computer desk is matte black with grey accents. I've been using it for a couple years now, and the spot where my mouse goes is starting to fade out(rather than black, it's dark grey). I was thinking about picking up a bottle of turtle wax, but that might not be a good idea. So anyways, what should I buy to touch up the finish?. I would just get a new desk, but black desks are expensive and hard to come by. Open Question: how to cut a recessed ceiling tile? Open Question: How can we utilise the area of garden behind a retaining wall?We have a small garden at the back of our new build property, and the builders have put a retaining wall at one side. There is a gap of approx 1 metre between the retaining wall and the neighbour's property, and the alley that is formed is about 2 metres high and 6 metres long. We would like to lower the wall as it is intrusive into what little garden we have, and do something with the alley to make it more aesthetically pleasing but we don't know what - we have a garden designer but he is stuck as well - we have explored trays with succulents but these would be inappropriate so we are looking for ideas to try and make the garden as level as possible - would decking work, or does anyone have any other ideas? Open Question: What color would be best to paint my nursery?I've decided to go with the Cotton Tale Slow Poke theme for my nursery, but I don't know what color would be best to paint the room. Open Question: How to let my parents allow me to get a door?okay, my room is 10ftx12ft. the door opening is 28in. my parents won't allow me to get a door. im 13, and i have to walk through my 10 year old sister's room to get to mine, and right now, all i have is a curtain my problem is that my sister stares at me when I get dressed, she hates when my dogs are in my room and they go into hers, and I really would like a normal-ish bedroom. my parents argument: not enough room(they are kinda heavy) and they dont want to "ruin" my doorway by putting in a door... I just really want to have a door P.S. i dont have a BF so they dont care about that my dad is a general contractor, and denys any excuse i ask him, my mom is all for it.... Open Question: Bathtub: cheap, durable, quiet? We need to replace our 60x30 BATHTUB in a small bathroom. This tub will be used DAILY as a SHOWER. (Yes, we considered shower-only but that's what's in the master bath. We'd like to keep a tub just in case we need one for a future grandchild or foot soak.) I want a tub that is durable, inexpensive, quiet and easy for my plumber to install. **Cast iron sounds good, but the weight will likely mean the install price soars, especially since this tub will be installed in a very small bathroom off a very small hall. Not a lot of maneuver room getting inside. However the toilet is currently out of the bathroom so once in, the install should be a bit easier. **Porcelain over steel is cheap and durable, but I've read many complaints about super loud noise as the tub fills. This will likely mean it will be loud during my son's long, early morning showers and, frankly, I want to wake each morning thinking we are having an earthquake. Also, I've heard it chips easier than enameled cast iron. **Acrylic seems like it might be a good alternative but I'm confused between brands, how to tell acrylic from acrylic-covered fiberglass, what's good, what's bad, etc. There doesn't seem to be a lot of acrylic-specific information other than waxing it to keep it looking good. **Acrylic-covered Fiberglass is said to be flimsy and not good quality. Any buzz words I should look for to make sure I don't mistake one of these for an acrylic tub? **Americast--not sure about the material. It's made by American Standard. Some say its wonderful, the best alternative to cast iron and acrylic. (which makes me want one) Others hate it, say they'll never buy it again. (which makes me rethink wanting one) The three walls surrounding the tub will be tiled. Do I need a special tub for this? (I've seen some with a lip and some without a lip. Not sure what is required.) FYI: We are looking for a basic, no-frills tub, no whirlpool jets, no fancy design or shape. Just a good, durable, quiet, inexpensive ($350 or less), easy-to-install tub for shower use. Thoughts? Suggestions? Opinions on what to avoid? Open Question: Apple (iPhone, iPod, iMac, etc...)
