Open Question: Best paint color for kitchen with blush cabinets?

We're moving into a new home and we'd like to paint our kitchen. The kitchen has blush cabinets which we would like to keep and a white countertop. The floors are hardwood. The previous owners painted the walls black so its been hard for us to imagine any color in there. I'd like to stay away from green because it brings out the red in the cabinets, making them appear pink! The rest of the house will be done in light beiges and browns. What do you think would be the best color for our kitchen that would tone down the blush and get rid of as much pink as possible?

Open Question: breakfast bar dilemma driving me nuts!?

From the foyer there are stairs going up and down. Down leads to the family room and up leads to the kitchen, dining area and great room. The view while coming up the stairs is of the kitchen and dining. So for privacy purposes we thought of having a breakfast bar (we won't be using it much though). Dilemma - will an island with a breakfast bar (both granite) take away the look of the kitchen? I somehow feel without a BB the island will have a nice flow to it and the kitchen will look really open. Opinions???

Open Question: Is there a flexible laminate flooring 1/4 round strip i can put around fireplace?

I just installed laminate flooring in my house! My fireplace edges have an arch instead of putting a regular laminate 1/4 round which would require like a 22-25 degree angle, Is there a little flexible wood or laminate or even wood colored vinyl strip i can put to go around my Fireplace where a few imperfections are?

Open Question: What do I do with this carpet?

I am renting a house and it is a little too late for him to replace the carpet. He just replaced it the problem is it's RED. I love the shabby chic look but I don't think red would go with that! What other decorating style should I use that captures that cottage look but can handle a red carpet?

Open Question: Can we re-paint over a door that has mildew smell from old paint?

Here's what happened. My husband touched up a door with the (old) paint he had used originally. The door looks great, but it has a strong mildew smell from the old paint. Do we have to strip to get rid of it, or can we repaint? Shall I wash with bleach? It is semi-gloss, if that matters. Please advise.
