I was thinking about buying a new sofa soon - the problem is getting it into the house (particularly the living room) and getting the old ones out. We had a bit of a struggle getting the old ones in, but managed it by manouvring them partly up the staircase and into the living room. However, since doing so, the council (our landlords) have carried out work on the house, including a boxed-in support beam over the stairs that makes our already-tiny hallway even tinier. Because of this, we can't fit the sofas out again, it's in the way and can't be removed. Any ideas how we can get the old sofas out of our house (preferably intact) and a new one in? My husband suggested removing the window, but I have no idea how you would do that without damaging the windowframe.

I have a leather couch that was about $1500.00 5 years ago. It is in good shape except for the fact that the sides are sinking in, and it needs more padding. Other then that the leather is in good condition. The cushions are not removable. Is reupholstering things pretty expensive? Any tips?
