Open Question: just moved into a new house,but the walls look terrible.think its dry wall.?

I want to smooth the walls down in my front living room and apply some new paint.The problem im facing is that when the stand up lights are on you can see some long lines of crease marks/or bumps.how do i get rid of it?..i want the walls smooth and flat. any pros out there that can help me out?

Open Question: how do I stop the masking tape peeling the paint off?

I want to paint the woodword, walls and ceiling in our bedroom. It is a big attic room with a full size staircase and a sloping roof on one side. There is alot of wood work (including three doors - bathroom, hallway, walk-in wardrobe). I will start with the ciling and paint a little onto the walls as they will be painted anyway. But when I have practised with masking tape to the protect the ceiling the ceiling paint comes off when I remove the tape. What order should I paint stuff in and how can I use the tape effectively?
