Open Question: is 30% under asking price too low for a fixer?my husband and i want to put in an offer on a fixer. asking price is 225k, which is at the very top of our price range. we would like to put in an offer of $157,500. the house is on the outskirts of a super trendy up and coming neighborhood (about 12 blocks away), has great bones and style (origional everything), 2,350 sq feet, 3 bed, 1 & 1/2 bath, 2 levels built in 1908. were pretty confident in the next 10 years this house will bring at least double what we want to pay with tlc and a little luck that the current neighborhood trend keeps heading in the same direction. it needs...new siding on one of the exterior walls, new back door (its boarded up), a few windows, a garage and shed tear down, new kitchen, bathrooms, appliances, floors need refinished, walls painted and a few need sheet rock, front and back decks need to be replaced, landscaping ETC. also, it IS on the edge of the neighborhood we want to live in, but the house is located on a not so great street/neighborhood. lots of cool old big houses, but theyre all rundown and icky, just like the one we like :) SO! is asking 30% less crazy? 225k seems very high, considering what else is out there needing no work. if it is crazy, what would be a more reasonable offer? we dont want to insult anyone, but we want to be able to fix it up without starving. its been on the market sense october 2009. Open Question: where should i hang my picture?i have a picture i want to move in my room. heres the dealio, my bed isn't exactly in the middle of the wall, its a bit off center from the wall. so what i was wondering was should i hang the picture in the middle of the wall, or directly above my bed? right now it's hanging in the middle of the wall and it looks a bit odd, but i think that if i hang it above my bed that that would look weird too. what do i do? and yes, i want to keep it on that wall so changing walls isn't an option. sorry it it's hard to understand, it'd be a lot easier if i had a picture. Open Question: Pictures- area rug difficulties?I've been trying to find a rug that works in our living area, however I am no interior designer and have a hard time deciding if what I get looks okay! I never thought getting a rug would be this difficult... Here are pictures with two different style rugs, and one with no rug. I currently have the brown looking rug.
