Open Question: New to sewing. What do I need? and more... Open Question: New to sewing. What do I need?Just got my first sewing machine! I'm so excited, but am unsure of what I need to get started on projects. I have the basic skills and a basic sewing kit, have done hand sewing and used a borrowed machine before, but those projects were really simple. I'm hoping to start sewing clothing for me and my family, as well as curtains and other home decor. I have a pattern board, but if I could get some tips about what else I need to start out, I would really appreciate it! Open Question: What colors go well with REALLY mint green walls?Just moved into this home...the owners have the house well painted except for my bedroom, its the brightest mint green! the whole room! It's very overwhelming to me and I need to get some good colors in here that will offset this green and look good with it. It's exactly like mint ice cream or the color of an old 50s car...real bright, I can't paint over this so I need to do some fixing. I don't like pastel colors so besides any of those, they would make me feel like its constantly Easter or something...I know white would be ok but I don't want too much I like darker colors. would black or dark brown be good? PS the carpet in here is like a chocolate brown. yes it is definitely retro! i thought about a darker green too...people have stated red too actually? ill have to get some color strips and put them up to see what looks best thanks for the input guys. Open Question: Wood protection for a barn.?I just built a barn and used the grooved T111. Paint it or stain it? It has a rather rough texture so painting I think will be hard. I have a Wagner sprayer and for stain it should work well and quicker. Is stain the better wood protection or paint. I would like to see the grain of the wood show. I do have to caulk the seams and can get a dark brown caulk and then a dark stain maybe. Any experts or comments welcome. TY Greg. Open Question: Did I list this Dining Room table on ebay in the best way possible?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150427726688 When I relisted it at a lower price, I was unable to update the detail information. Great question, thanks. Open Question: What would be a nice house warming gift?Open Question: Can I paint my bathroom without replacing the drywall because of mold?My mom is going out of town for a few days with my little brother, and I voluteered to stay home and watch our 3 dogs. Since my parent's are divorcing, my mom wants to move out of the house as soon as she gets the chance because my stepdad never put any money into the house, and now it;s falling apart... So I wan't to do some renovations while she's away. Anyway, I was wondering if I would be able to paint the drywall in my mom's bathroom, after removing the wallpaper. The wallpaper has been on those bathroom walls for about 10 years or so, and is now starting to peel and show black mold. I do not know the extent of all damage, but just by the sound of it... would I be able to bleach/steam the mildew off of the walls and just paint with a sealant, and then regular bathroom paint? I'm sorry for not being clear. I am not allowing my mom to sell the house :D that's why I am going to fix it up for her birthday (that's why she's going out of town for a few days). Anyway... so please do not talk about resale value in this question... :'( it hurts my feelings since I have grown up in this house my whole life, and the only reason my mom wants to sell it is because my stepdad attacked me on my 16th birthday, and it's falling apart... so yea... thanls for all the great answers so far! Open Question: what kind of bed spread should I get for my room?I painted my room a teal-ish color and I was wondering what kind of bed spread would look good with it. Also, my bed has a big black head board. Suggestions? Open Question: How to get glued pictures of my wall?My older sis moved out so I have her room now.The problem is she glued posters to her wall with a glue stick and I don't know how to take them off.I tried to peal it off but little bits are still on. is there anything I can put on it to make it come off faster? Open Question: How much roughly would it cost for a 4.5 x 5.5 metre bedroom to recarpet?I'm in the UK and I have a really messed up white carpet so I want to change to a darker carpet so it doesnt look dirty all the time (I'm doing art stuff). And... Do I still have to buy some underlayments or something like that? More Recent Articles |
