Open Question: What to use for my kitchen floor ?

Hi I have had Tiles in the past but they aren't very good when you drop heavy pans and crack, therefore the options seem to be lino, Laminate or a wood floor, the latter is going to cost quite alot I fear, but lino seems really dated and my experience of Laminate is that its light and tend to feel spongy ? what have other people got and recommend ? Thanks

Open Question: What should I know for replacing a wood fireplace with a gas unit?

My husband and I are remodeling. I LOVE fireplaces, but the one in the house was pretty awful. My husband refuses to replace it with another woodburner. He has suggested gas claiming that they are "ventless." Is that accurate? Do you have to run a gas line into your house or do they run on cylinders? Does anyone have advice as to the finer points of using/having one?

Open Question: What sort of underlay can I use for carpet after removing tile?

My husband and I are remodeling our home and the bedrooms all had this hideous tile. My husband got the tile up but it was a bear of a job. The floor is now very uneven with rocky patches of thinset. Will normal carpet padding cover this and make for a nice even floor or should something else be used? Short of a jackhammer I'm not sure how we could get the vestiges of the concrete.

Open Question: what can you tell me about an antique cole hot blast stove?

I have one in my garage and am trying to restore it, possibly sell it. There is precious little resources online and I want to konw what it is worth. I know that is was made in Chicago IL and that the "hot blast" technology was patent pending when this was produced.
