The appearance of the trim is poor. The previous owner did a terrible job staining it (it's practically textured in some areas) and it was never taped properly when the walls were painted so there are ugly paint stains along the sides. The wood itself is okay, but there are some cracks and nicks here and there. I'm fine with that though. My original plan was to restore the wood by stripping, sanding and restaining. I love the look of wood trim. However, this is obviously going to take a lot of time and effort. Plan B is to just give in, prime and paint the trim white, and move on with my life. Of course, this is also a lot of effort, but not nearly as difficult, time consuming, or messy. Plus, I have some experience with painting so it's not as intimidating a task. I also love the fresh and clean look of white trim, but the thought of painting the wood PAINS me. Am I being ridiculous? Should I restore the wood trim or paint it white? If it helps, the wall colors are kind of like coffee ice cream in the LR/DR and a medium green in the office. Yes, it's dark with the wood... but it feels very cozy and dignified and the wood looks nice with the colors. On the other hand, white would certainly brighten things up and maybe look a bit happier, but I'm scared of losing some of the home's character. This decision is stressing me out more than it should! By the way, I don't care about current trends in home decorating. I couldn't care less whether wood or white is in style. I like both looks for the different feel they give a room. I'm just interested in other's preferences and the reason behind it. Thank you :-) More Recent Articles
