Open Question: method to finish kitchen cabinets?i am building kitchen cabinets and so far so good...im happy with the color of water based stain...really dark espresso ...and the craftmansship is fairly good too. now i started to finish the dorrs with varathane diamond wood finish....with a brush. Although its tedious and i gotta finish a surface quickly or it will gob, i thought i was happy until i was about half way done. Now im thinking some of the doors dont look so great as the second coat seems to be creating a lot of sheen (im using a satin finish..lowest sheen i can get) and the brush stokes are showing up a bit. Plus if anything happens on that second coat like a flaw or hair, i have tried to rescue with sanding and doing a 3rd coat...well those ones turned out looking very glossy and smooth unlike the rest and i dont prefer the look of the 3rd coat at all. So i just went and bought the same product in a spray can. when i tried it on a first coat it dont seem to work with the grain...kinda leaves the texture of a paint roller. and i keep it away only letting a fine mist hit. So what should i have done to start with?? I can sand the doors down to nothing and start over i dont mind. I just want that satiny sheen that looks flawless.
