Open Question: Has anybody used the wagner paint eater to prepare aluminum siding for painting? How did it turn out? Is it very slow? My house is 2 storey and the original paint looks really beat. Thanks for any info Open Question: When laying a PVC sewer line for a toilet, how far above the concrete slab must it extend?I'm building an outhouse! I'm connecting 4" PVC sewer line to the exisiting underground cast iron sewer. I'm actually going to bring the PVC up, and then pour the concrete around it and the water line for the commode (don't worry - the copper will NOT come in contact with the concrete - I'll use a sleeve). Anyway, how far above the slab should I come with the sewer line for the toilet? Should it be flush? Remember I still need to add the toilet flange and that wax ring thing. Also - would it be advantageous to set the bolts for the toilet right into the concrete? Open Question: i have two pairs of old wooden shutters. what should i reuse them for?So... i have two old sets of wooden shutters. I feel bad throwing them away. I think they are so cool. I would love to reuse them in some way. I am making a playroom.. and i was thinking of making a window inside the playroom and it being a window,,, But does that make no sense? A window with shutters indoors? Then I read you could build a shelf but i don't know if i could do that... not that handy! any other cool ideas out there?? i would love to hear them! 10 points to best answer I promise Open Question: the cabinet guy hung a couple of cabinets in the laundry room. He put them all the way to the ceiling.....?now i cant put up white molding all around the room. the cabinets are stained oak. there are 2 cabinets on one wall and there is a window inbetween the 2 cabinets. i am wondering if i can just use the same crown molding that is on top of the cabinets and run it all along the room and then have white baseboards. how would i fix this? i do have white crown in the kitchen and living area. or could i just put the whit molding in between the 2 cabinets and then run it around the room Open Question: How should I decorate my loft/rec room?My mom and I are moving into a new house and it has a loft about 20x15. I didn't want to leave my old house at all so as a consolation my mom said I can have the loft all to myself. I already know what basics i'm putting in there. Desk for homework, laptop, 80 inch TV (its too big for the people to take with them :) ), and XBOX360 with live. How should I decorate it furniture wise to make it awesome for me and my friends placement-wise, and also furniture-wise (i.e. bean bag chairs or couch, more light vs less light). Please remember we have very little money to use on it, so foosball, surround sound, etc. isn't possible. Thank You! Open Question: I need advise on how to paint over wood! I still want the light wood to come through though.?im going to paint a piece of furniture that is light wood with a green iron stand. To make it more modern I am going to brush dark brown on top of the light wood to where you can still see through it a little and see the lighter wood underneath (kinda modern grundgy) then spray paint the iron all black and brush it with that matte silver.. that is just my idea i dont know how to go about it though? would it be better to paint the whole thing? do i need a top coat of some kind? i just know what i want it to look like in the end : / i dont need the wood to look like wood. not with the same texture or anything i want it to look brushed on. Open Question: Help with a shelf for Microwave?Im trying to find a shelf that will hold a microwave over my stove. The wall is concrete so Im trying to find a solution to put the microwave(not mountable) over the stove. Any suggestions? P.S. Home Depot is right up the street. Open Question: sound dampening a basement ceiling without drywall?I just bought a new house with an unfinished basement. I can't play music very loud at all without being able to hear it upstairs. I've been checking online about how to help with this, but almost everyone says to put drywall up on the ceiling. I like quick access to the wires up in the rafter beams. I was thinking of putting some stiff insulation in between the beams, but i don't want to do it if it won't make any difference. Also, would a hanging ceiling help with the sound, that way i could quickly take off a panel to get to the wires and pipes? thank you for your time. Open Question: Where can you find Zebra Print Wallpaper?Okay, I love Zebra Stripes. (: But I was thinking of redecorating my room, so I decided to do a Zebra theme. Open Question: Do you find it necessary to paint the ceiling every time that you paint?Open Question: Where can I find clear chandelier I saw at Forever 21 as decor?I saw these clear standing chandeliers at Forever 21. There were clear and about 24 inches high and all the pieces were flat. I am not sure how else to describe it. I am looking for a few of these to buy.... anyone know where I could find something like this? Open Question: Interior Designers: What look/style would you call this (pics)?Well this is my dream home, but I love this look. I don't really know what to call it and that's why I'd like your help. I like to incorporate vintage pieces with contemporary. I love baroque styles, and anything fancy and claw-footed, but I also love some modern styles like bright colors, a girly-feeling, and lots of eclectic knickknacks and accessory pieces. I also love art, mostly pop art and collage-y pieces, so these would be most likely to hang in this dreamland, but I'd probably keep them in real fancy frames. I also love animal prints, sparkly jewelry, and anything floral. I also like stuff from the 50s, 60s, and 70s like shag carpeting and various things. One of my favorite pieces to decorate with is a vintage camera from the 60s, it adds a real neat feel. So is there a name for this? Pictures that kind of say this: http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/room/eclectic/living-rooms/2421/index.html http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/room/eclectic/living-rooms/2497/index.html http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/room/eclectic/living-rooms/2758/index.html http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/room/traditional/living-rooms/2419/index.html http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/room/traditional/living-areas/701/index.html THANKS!
