Open Question: How do I safely paint over sandy, textured, wall paint? and more... Open Question: How do I safely paint over sandy, textured, wall paint?I just bought a house and the previous owners painted the kitchen walls with textured, sandy, burgundy wall paint. The house is only 5 years old so I know that's the only layer of paint that is on the wall other than the original white walls. I want nice smooth walls with type of paint that is easy to clean like semi-gloss but doesn't have that stupid shine. What should I do? Do I honestly have to sand the walls by hand to get that stupid sand paper texture off? I'm scared! Open Question: Paint techniques to change wall but not repaint?I like my kitchen but want to change up two orange walls. The other two walls are the color you can see on the right wall. I want a technique to put over the paint, I don't want to repaint. Suggestions wanted for the color and the technique. There are copper accents in the room. The faucet, wall decor and bowls, that can give you an idea of the rest of the room. Thanks. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h288/lafernan/untitled-6.jpg Open Question: What colors should I paint my home?I just bought a house. I have cream micro suede couches (love seat and family seat) and one family seat dark brown leather couch with wood but I haven't purchased any other furniture just yet. I plan to purchase things with black stain such as the dining room table side tables, etc. The molding and ceiling are white which I want to keep for contrast to black furniture. The railing for stairs is a light to medium wood color. The carpeting is a dark ocean blue which is throughout the entire house. I hate it but I'm keeping it until I can afford slate or granite flooring. This house is a semi attached end unit so on one side of the house there are no windows but that's the side with the stairs going to the second floor, the living room, dining room combo have windows on one side so we get a lot of light since it's a corner lot but it's still not a huge place so I don't want it to feel small. The colors I am definitely interested in are indigo blue, white, cream, chocolate, beige, black, and soft green. Can anyone suggest what colors to paint the living room and dining room combo? Oh and I can only fit one family sized couch and one love seat in the living room so you gotta pick which one i should put with the love seat, the leather or matching micro suede one. I also want to buy a nice small single couch/chair type thing (maybe buy it in the accent color I decide on) If you need any more info just ask and I'll update the post. Open Question: Do you like your white cabinets?I am in the process of building a house. I am debating on wood or white cabinets. I have been told that white cabinets are very hard to keep clean and after years of use become dingy and need refinished. Any suggestions? I am unable to find information about average installation/purchasing costs for frame material or glazing material. What are average purchasing prices for the different frame/glazing materials? ie. aluminum frame, wood frame, etc. Also, if possible, I'd like information on the life disposal consequences of window materials (ie. which are sent to landfill, which can be recycled). Any help is much appreciated. Thanks. Open Question: What do you think of this Ashely bed set?We are thinking to by this Bed-set from Ashely. What do you think ?
